StoveTeam: Mexico

San Miguel de Allende Factory Underway

In mid-June, Factory Owner Eric Ramirez, Consultant/Outreach Worker Saul Juarez Cabrera, and local Rotarians broke ground in constructing the latest Ecocina factory in San Miguel de Allende (SMA), Mexico. Gustavo Peña traveled from El Salvador to assist with the production of the first Ecocina stoves in the country. Together they were able to purchase tools and materials, lay out the factory, and build the first stoves.

The factory was established with a Rotary grant sponsored jointly by San Miguel and Cupertino, California Rotary Clubs. The San Miguel de Allende club plans to integrate the Ecocina project with their existing water and sanitation projects.

Contracts Signed for Two Oaxaca Factories

StoveTeam Board members made their second trip to Oaxaca, Mexico in late June to sign agreements with the Oaxaca Bicentenario Rotary Club to help establish two factories. One factory will be in Huayapan, 20 minutes outside of Oaxaca City, and the other in Tlaxiaco, in the Mixteca region.

Gustavo Peña demonstrated the Ecocina at the market in Xochimilco with the help of a local cook. One attendee was so moved by the project, he said that StoveTeam was "starting the next Mexican revolution" by bringing stoves to an area with such need.

Follow the progress of the new factories on our website. If you or your Rotary club is interested in sponsoring a grant for a new factory, visit or email
