Update from Nochixtlan, Oaxaca

Just last week, StoveTeam staff, and factory consultant Eric Ramirez (owner of “Ecocina Stoves Mexico” in San Miguel de Allende), flew to Oaxaca to help Fermina and Jesús, owners of VERDE 21 stove factory, determine the best method of reducing labor and production costs to be able to offer the Ecocina at the lowest possible price. We are thrilled to announce that we have begun a pilot stove project with Fermina and Jesús to study the demand for Ecocina stoves in the region, test acceptance within a specific price range, and develop a sales program for the factory. As a result of our trip, Fermina and Jesús were connected with the HUB of Oaxaca, a support organization that offers critical networking opportunities, public relations services, and business development training.

Oaxaca is Mexico's second poorest state, with more than half of the population cooking over open fires and in great need of Ecocina stoves. The stoves produced by VERDE 21, will reduce wood consumption and deforestation, decrease time spent gathering wood, and, most importantly, help reduce incidences of burns, lower respiratory infections, skin and eye diseases.

$$ Double your impact through workplace matching programs

As we approach the year-end giving season, take a moment today to check with your employer about a workplace giving program that can double the impact of your gift. Many employers have a matching gift program; you give and they donate the same amount. In fact, in 2013, corporations donated more than $16 billion to nonprofits, a significant portion of which came in the form of company matches.

Ask your employer today and double the impact of your gift. 100% of both donations will support StoveTeam’s efforts to replace dangerous open cooking fires in Latin America.
