Marco Tulio Guerra, the owner of Eco-Comal stove factory in Guatemala, called us the other day to share some good news: he won first place in a national competition for entrepreneurship in a green business! The annual prize, awarded by GuateVerde provides funding to an entrepreneur engaged in projects to improve health, access to clean water, or sanitation in Guatemala.
Marco Tulio started his factory a number of years ago, producing a built-in-place plancha stove. He started working with StoveTeam in 2009 to add the portable Ecocina to his product line. He now sells water filters and a variety of cookstove models, including an Ecocina with and without a chimney, larger plancha stoves, and institutional stoves for schools and businesses. You can read Marco Tulio's first-hand account of how he started the stove factory here.
