Guatemala

Justa stove pilot project

StoveTeam’s Justa stove pilot project in Guatemala is making a multi-pot, fixed-griddle stove available to families in rural communities. By empowering local people to become stove technicians in their own areas, we’re ensuring the longevity of the project, and its scalability across Latin America!

StoveTeam’s first team of four local stove technicians are currently installing stoves in the town of Retalhuleu, Guatemala.

Nicaragua

The Avanza stove factory began production in Fall of 2016. Originally started in Estelí, Nicaragua by Friends of Families United in partnership with StoveTeam, the factory was purchased in 2019 by Elida Olivas, one of the factory’s longtime staff people.

Despite difficult economic times in Nicaragua in recent years, the factory Avanza continues providing local employment. Plus, Elida has designed some of the most beautiful Ecocina stoves we’ve ever seen!

Lake Nicaragua is home to freshwater dolphins and 11-foot long bull sharks! Originally a bay, the lake was separated from the ocean by volcanic eruptions. It is now the only freshwater lake in the world that is home to so many oceanic animals.

The lake is nearly three times the size of Rhode Island and contains over 400 islands.

El Salvador

StoveTeam assisted local partner Gustavo Peña to open the Inversiones Falcón stove factory in El Salvador in 2008. Prior to this, Gustavo assisted StoveTeam to develop the Ecocina cookstove. Today, Inversiones Falcón has produced and distributed over 27,000 cookstoves.

In 2019, Gustavo began partnering with StoveTeam to offer educational programs for socially and geographically isolated schools to educate children and their families about the dangers of smoke in the home.
