A simple solution to a complex problem

StoveTeam's model for assisting local entrepreneurs in Central America to start their own stove projects has been awarded the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Partnership for Clean Indoor Air Award for Developing Local Markets. To date, projects producing StoveTeam’s cookstoves have produced more than 80,000 stoves, improving the lives of more than half a million people.

COOKSTOVES IMPROVE HEALTH

  • Indoor smoke is eliminated, while overall smoke is reduced by 86%.

  • Kids are no longer in danger of burns, respiratory illness, eye and skin problems.

  • Wood use is reduced by 50%, saving time for families, and especially children.

COOKSTOVES BENEFIT LOCAL ECONOMIES

  • Projects create jobs in the areas where they’re needed most, employing locals to help with stove distribution, bookkeeping and sales.

  • Built from all local materials such as concrete, pumice and tile. Projects stimulate economic growth by purchasing all stove materials from local sources.

  • Stove owners often boost their standard of living by starting local businesses using their cookstove.

COOKSTOVES IMPROVE THE ENVIRONMENT

  • Each stove saves up to 15 tons of CO2, helping to ensure sustainable communities for generations to come.

  • Wood use is reduced by 50%, saving forests from over-harvesting.

Each cookstove…

  1. Saves an average family of five to eight people from the dangers of smoke inhalation, which kills four million people each year, mostly women and children.

  2. Is built by local people in Central America using local materials, creating local jobs in areas that need them most.

  3. Saves up to 15 tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere, representing one of the most powerful solutions to climate change.

Doña Maria Ilia López Pérez stands with her Justa cookstove, one of over 600,000 people in Central America who are currently benefiting from cookstoves made by StoveTeam International.

On this increasingly connected planet, I believe the time has come for the hearth industry to take a small part on the world stage.
— Craig Gutowsky, The Foundry, Ontario CA
We decided to get involved because we want to be a company that gives back, not just to our local community, but to share that with as many people as we can. We’re small, but StoveTeam helps us to have a big impact.
— Joe Hemmelgarn, My Hoosier Hearth, Seymour Indiana, USA
